Country Cares for St. Jude Kids!
Hurricane Gustav relief effort update
On September 1 - 4, 2008, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital evacuated 14 patients from its affiliate clinic in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for treatment at St. Jude's main campus in Memphis, Tennessee. St. Jude has also evacuated seven other patients treated at Louisiana State University and Tulane for treatment and services at St. Jude in Memphis. All patients were treated in Memphis by St. Jude physicians at no cost to the family.
St. Jude also provided free housing and meals to the patients and their families as well as assisted with the costs of transportation to and from Memphis.
Power has been restored at the St. Jude Baton Rouge Affiliate Clinic, Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, and the hospitals in New Orleans. The south Louisiana patients affected by Hurricane Gustav and treated at St. Jude are in the process of returning home.
St. Jude also expects to have its pediatric oncology clinic in Baton Rouge functioning during the week of September 8.
Through a collaborative effort with the physicians and staff at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, Tulane and Louisiana State University, St. Jude provided support, including care and medications, to the children needing medical treatment for pediatric cancer in the area affected by the storm.
